Silver Plated Fruit / Bread Basket by John Round & Son

£65.00

This beautiful and most characterful antique silver plated fruit, or bread basket, features an elegant ribbed design to its outer edges, precise scalloped and etched rim, and fine rope twist handle.

Made by the acclaimed Sheffield Silversmith John Round and Son it dating to between 1847 and1 874. Its stunning craftsmanship and beautiful aged patina, make for a standout styling piece in any interior.

Key Points:
• A large antique decorative silver plated basket
• Gorgeous aged silver plate with an iridescent gun-metal grey patina
• High quality craftsmanship
• Stamped EPNS (electroplated nickel on silver)
• Marked by John Round and Son and their All the Round trademark

Year of manufacture:
1847 - 1874

History:
John Round & Son was established by John Round in Sheffield in 1847 in a workshop attached to his house in Tudor Street. In partnership with his son Edwin, they went under the title of John Round & Son and the trademark ALL THE ROUND

Approximate Measurements:
W: 30.5cm (12") at widest point
D 23.5cm (9.25") at deepest point
H: 23cm (9") including handle

Condition:
It is in excellent antique condition, especially considering its age with no major damage of note. As to be expected from a piece of this age, made from silver plate, it has a very aged patina and oxidised surface, leaving (in our opinion) a beautiful rustic weathered finish. It does display signs of wear and use, and areas of historic polish residue all in line with age.

Please note, we sell all our metalwares in 'as sourced' condition, as a genuine aged patina is impossible to replicate once polished. It could however, be polished to a higher shine quite easily as desired.

Postage & Packaging:
As per our brand ethos, your item will be very carefully and securely shipped, wrapped with the utmost care in sustainable recycled and recyclable packaging.
