Pair of Ashworth Brothers Large Ironstone Dinner Plates in the Real Old Canton Pattern

£28.00

These superb examples, of quality antique Ironstone by GL Ashworth Brothers, feature a beautiful oriental scene, in a rich cobalt blue hue.

In the Real Old Canton pattern, they are set against a gorgeous off-white background, edged with detailed banding. We absolutely adore them for their bold, almost 'flow blue' design and feel they are as functional now, as the day they were made.

Mix them through existing tableware, or use them as beautiful display pieces on a dresser in a farmhouse or country styled kitchen.

Key Points:
• A pair of large antique dinner plates
• Beautiful cobalt blue oriental pattern
• Produced by Wood & Sons, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent
• Blue printed back-stamp, Delph in ribbon with Wood & Sons beneath.

History:
Real Old Canton, is an English copy of an 18th Century Chinese Pattern. GL Ashworth Brothers was founded originally in 1862, in Hanley, Stoke on Trent, England. As earthenware and ironstone manufacturer, they eventually became the owner of Masons Patent Ironstone.

Year of manufacture:
c 1900-1920

Origin:
England

Pattern:
Real Old Canton

Approximate Measurements:
W: 26.5cm (10.5") diameter

Condition:
All in very good antique condition, free of notable signs of major damage or extensive wear. There are light signs of wear and use in line with their age - light utensil marks, and uniform light surface age related crazing to their glaze. One plate has a very small flea nibble to its back face, though this is not visible from the front face. Please see image 9 for clarity.

Buyers Guide:
It is very important to note, that all the pieces Roof + Roof sell are genuine pieces of age, each having a rich and varied past and are never sold as in new condition. With this in mind, minor blemishes, surface scratches, manufacturing flaws and a general sense of their age and history are naturally to be expected. We always try, to the best of our ability to honestly and clearly communicate an items condition, both in our description and photography, highlighting anything over and above what we perceive as ‘general age related wear and tear'. We kindly ask you look closely at all our photos, using the zoom facility, as these naturally form part of the item's description.

Please be aware that your monitor, tablet, or mobile device may emulate colours/tones differently 'on screen' to that of the actual physical item, all of which are photographed and shown to the best of our abilities. Any item/prop shown in our photography is used for styling purposes only. Prior to purchasing, if you would like further clarification on any item, then we are always happy to help in any way possible.
