Vintage Cloisonné Enamel & Brass Trinket Box
The Story
This delicate trinket or pill box is a beautiful example of mid-century Cloisonné, a traditional decorative technique where metal wires are used to create "compartments" (cloisons) that are then filled with vibrant vitreous enamel. Featuring a classic Oriental cherry blossom design, the box is accented with deep cobalt blue edging and opens to reveal a surprising, bright turquoise blue enamelled interior.
The Details
Era: Circa 1950s.
Origin: Likely Chinese (unmarked).
Materials: Enamel over a solid brass base.
Design: Intricate floral/cherry blossom motif with a striking turquoise interior.
Dimensions: 5.5cm Diameter / 2.5cm High.
Condition: Lovely vintage condition. It has a minute, almost invisible impact mark on a white section of enamel on the front and one small chip to the enamel on the inside face of the lid (completely hidden when the box is closed).
Why It’s Special
Cloisonné is prized for its jewel-like colours and the sheer amount of manual labour required to produce even small pieces. The contrast between the warm brass, the traditional floral exterior, and the vivid "pop" of the turquoise inside makes this a particularly charming find. It's the perfect size for keeping a pair of earrings or a wedding ring safe on a bedside table.
Styling Tips
Bedside Beauty: Use it to store your most-worn jewellery at night. Its compact size means it won't clutter a small nightstand, while the brass adds a touch of vintage luxury.
Dressing Table Accent: Group it with other vintage perfume bottles or small silver items to create a delicate, feminine vignette.
Travel Companion: Because it is made of sturdy brass and enamel, it makes a robust yet beautiful travel case for vitamins, pills, or a single statement ring.
