Vintage Crown Devon Art Deco Vase – Geometric Mattajade Glaze, 1930s
Bring the bold architectural spirit of the 1930s into your home with this authentic Crown Devon Art Deco vase.
Produced by S. Fielding & Co. in Stoke-on-Trent, this vase is a masterclass in Art Deco geometry. It features a stunning stepped, conical body accented by sleek pleated, machine-age silhouette. The finish is a classic mottled Mattajade ice-green and warm Apricot-beige matte glaze, which was the height of sophistication in mid-war British interiors.
While it does have a small sign of its long history, (a small flaked chip as below) its striking shape remains as modern today, as it was 90 years ago.
The Details:
Brand: Crown Devon (S. Fielding & Co.)
Origin: Staffordshire, England
Era: Circa 1930s
Shape: Tapered conical with geometric pleated form
Style: High Art Deco / Odeon Style
Dimensions: 19.5cm H x 13.5cm W at rim x 9cm Base diameter
Condition:
This piece has one small sliced chip (5mm) on its front face (clearly shown in the photos). Fortunately, the vase can be turned with the chip displayed to the rear and thus it remains unseen. It is a shallow surface flake that reveals the lighter ceramic beneath and it does not affect the structural integrity of the piece. Aside from the chip, the vase shows some very light age-related crazing and typical wear consistent with a 1930s piece. Priced accordingly to reflect the minor damage - it is perfect for a collector who loves the iconic Art Deco form over "mint" perfection!
